Mendip Hills
backAn area of outstanding natural beauty rising above the Somerset Levels, the Mendip Hills offer a stunning landscape to explore, featuring dramatic gorges and ancient woodlands. The limestone hills, along with the lake views of Chew Valley, provide steep slopes and undulating plateaus for exploration. There are over 440 km of public rights of way in the Mendip Hills, which include circular walks and long-distance trails, such as the 50-mile Mendip Way.
In the Mendip Hills, you will find Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, two excellent spots for a day out. Cheddar Gorge boasts the highest inland limestone cliffs in England, with remarkable cave systems and adventure activities to participate in. The village of Cheddar is an excellent place to stop for food and drink, offering an opportunity to try some authentic Somerset cheddar, including Cheddar Gorge Cheese, which is matured in caves in the surrounding area.
